RELIGIOUS TURMOIL AND JAN'S MINISTRY IN THE NETHERLANDS
The website of a Dutch Church Registry (www.kerkenregister.com) has short histories of
many churches and splinter groups in the Netherlands.
A national biographical encyclopedia, "Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland", provided
information on Huet and Mooij. Website: www.inghist.nl
Some information about Faure and Huet came from a research paper, "Reason's Dead End,
Spiritualism and the Theology of DP Faure" by Dr. Benno Alexander Zuiddam, a minister in
Tasmania. It has several references to the periodical "Het Eeuwige Leven".
The following two religious history books can be found at the website:
www.totheildesvolks.nl
Considerable Information about the religious turmoil in the Netherlands in the 1800's
came from "Opkomst en vestiging van het Baptisme in Nederland" ("The Rise and
Establishment of Baptism in the Netherlands"), published in 1913. This source mentions
the periodical "Het Eeuwige Leven", and Jan Poot, P. Huet and many other activists. It also
identifies Bentinck and Van Doorn, who were mentioned in WF Poat's notes.
Some parallel information related to the founding and development of the Free Evangelical
Church was found in "J. De Liefde, in zijn leven en werken geschetst" by S. Coolsma, 1917.
Useful information on the many controversies of the time are extensively detailed in
"Reformed Thought and Experience in a New World; A study of the Christian Reformed
Church and its American Environment 1890-1918" by H. Zwaanstra, Published by - J.H. Kok
B.V., Kampen, Netherlands 1973
Additional religious history for both Europe and America was found in "The Christian
Reformed Tradition From the Reformation Till the Present", by D.H. Kromminga, 1943.
The periodical "Het Eeuwige Leven" is in the Library of the Free University of Amsterdam,
their catalog gives some information. Website: centauri.ic.uva.nl:8080
Jan Poot's book, "Romeinen Negen" (Romans Nine), is available at both the Univerity of
Utrecht and the Free University of Amsterdam. Vrie Univ Website: www.ubvu.vu.nl
