BIBLIOGRAPHY AND RESOURCES FOR: "FROM POOT TO POAT"

This is an informal record of my sources of information. It will be updated as research
progresses. Most of the source data has been archived onto CD-ROM.

Some information is from notes that I made of Pearl "Nanny" Poat's recollections in 1974.
Wilma Poat Allison helped identify photographs, and contributed her own experiences and
recollections of family stories. Several family members have provided additional useful
information - Sally and George Steffens, Mildred Poat Thorson, Lonnie Thorson Steffens,
and Lucille Shifflet. George helped with various corrections and shared his genealogy
research. I recently received Mildred's partial autobiography and it will be very helpful.
Lucille shared many of her memories with me.

A wealth of anecdotes has come from nine entertaining pages titled "The Reminiscences
and Cogitations of a Retired Parson" written by Rev. W.F. Poat shortly before his passing.
These were written at the request of his daughter Mildred. His notes omitted much by
necessity and some errors or inconsistencies occur in a few details. Yet, they provide
valuable information about his early life and were essential to my research
A copy of the 1913 newspaper obituary for Rev. John W. Poot was very valuable. Although
the obituary was short, it gave essential clues about the places the Poots lived.
