Oude Leije and Finkum

This 124 mile race is held when the
winter is cold enough to freeze the
canals. The race goes through Oude
Leije and Finkum toward the finish in
Leeuwarden. Hundreds of thousands of
people attend this event.

Oude Leije’s church and public school
buildings no longer exist. The church
probably resembled this one in neighboring
Finkum. The Christian day school the Poots
attended in Finkum was jointly operated with
Oude Leije.
